everything is relevant
Mountain Lion, Schmountain Lion. A grumpy letter to Apple.

This is just a general plea to stop trying to make OS X more like a toy and recognise that many of us want and expect a professional tool isn’t layered with more and more window dressing.

A professional and a home user version of OS X would be awesome. I don’t care about tagging photos of my friends or sharing links to dodgy websites when I’m working. I have an iPhone (‘companion screen’) for that. And I certainly don’t need a gabillion different ways to access my applications. I need one clear and easy to access route to the tools I use everyday.

And that’s without getting into the actual visual design OS X has adopted over the last decade or so. To call it distracting doesn’t even begin to tackle the design mistakes us dedicated users have had to take into our daily goings-on, as your icons and textures have become more and more elaborate.

I may be just one voice amongst many decrying Apple’s current trajectory but please please please stop talking down to your audience. It’s time to acknowledge that the Apple audience is becoming increasingly split and that us professional types are already on the look out for a system that takes what we do more seriously.

Yours sincerely,
Michael Bojkowski
